9. Christ versus Religion

1. Q. I don’t understand how Christ can be versus religion. Can you please give me an example of this?
A) Christ’s birth was outside of religion. The record of Matthew chapter 1 tells how the birth of Christ was accomplished outside of Jerusalem, away from the temple, having nothing to do with the holy priests.

2) Q. When Christ was born, wasn’t the place where He was found a religious place?
A. Christ was found outside of religion. Matthew chapter 2 tells us how people found this Christ. He was not found in religion, by any religious people, in Jerusalem, in the temple, neither was He found by any priest or any holy people.

3) Q. I thought that the religious people who had the knowledge would be first to find Christ. Why wasn’t this the case?
A. The scribes and the Pharisees had the knowledge, they had the exact scriptural references, but none of them went to see Christ. They were for the Scriptures, they were for the Bible, but they were not for Christ.

4) Q. Today, there are many religious people. Are they the same as the scribes and Pharisees during Jesus time?
A. The Christian religion today is exactly the same in principle. People talk about the Bible and have the knowledge concerning Christ, but rarely do you find one who really cares for Christ.

5) Q. I know that Jesus had disciples who followed Him. When did they begin to follow Jesus?
A. Christ was followed outside of religion. Matthew 4 tells us that after Jesus was introduced, the Galilean fishermen followed Him. They began to follow not in Jerusalem, not in the temple, and not even in the Holy Land, but in Galilee.

6) Q. If Jesus was against religion, He must have hated the religious people. Is this true?
A. The religious people hated Jesus, but Jesus never hated them. Jesus was one hundred percent versus religion, but He still loved those religious people.

7) Q. The religious people knew a lot about the Bible but they missed Christ. What can I learn from this?
A. If you have Christ with the Scriptures, surely you will have life; but if you have the Scriptures, but are devoid of the living Christ as the life-giving Spirit, you have no life. The more you search, the more dead you are. The letter kills.

8) Q. Christians today have the Bible and preach Christ. Shouldn’t this be enough?
A. Christianity today is almost a religion. Don’t think that since Christianity has the Bible, everything is well. Don’t think that since Christianity today preaches Christ, everything is fine.

9) Q. The teachings and doctrines of the Bible are what I like the most. Is this there anything else I need?
A. We must all be so living with the living Christ, not with anything religious, not with anything of Christianity, not with anything of tradition, organization, regulation, forms, mere teachings, and dead doctrines.

10) Q. Some people only care for the historical, doctrinal Christ. But what does Christ care for?
A. Christ is only Christ Himself, and Christ cares only for Himself; He does not care for a Christ in doctrine, a Christ in history, or the Christ in your mind. He only cares for Himself, the living Christ in your spirit.
